+ When do I need to register for VAT in the UK?
Generally, you must register when your turnover in the previous 12 months exceeds the VAT registration threshold. You may also have to register earlier if your turnover level is large enough that you will quickly exceed the VAT registration threshold. + When can I de-register from VAT in the UK?
You can de-register when annual turnover in the previous 12 months drops below the VAT de-registration threshold. For current rates- see our "Tax Rates & Thresholds" page
+ How often must I make VAT reurns in the UK?
Vat returns are due every quarter or 3 months
+ What if my VAT returns are late or incorrect?
There are automatic penalties and surcharges for late or incorrect VAT returns. VAT inspections may be initiated by HMRC to check VAT is being accounted for correctly. Where errors are found, penalties, surcharges and interest may be charged.
+ I do some of my business with or in other EU countries - will I have to register in those other countries?
VAT registration thresholds vary in each country and many have a NIL threshold, i.e. if you do any business in that country you MUST register for VAT there. We can advise on sopecific thresholds for different countries.
